KYLE PUMROY, is a Senior Resident Fellow for Space Studies at the Mitchell Institute’s Spacepower Advantage Center of Excellence.

BACKGROUND:  Col. Pumroy is a retired United States Space Force Colonel with over 27 years of active duty in both the Space Force and Air Force, finishing his career as the Department of the Air Force’s Deputy Inspector General for Space.  Prior to that, he was the first commander of Space Delta 11 at Schriever Space Force Base, leading the transition of electronic warfare Space Range and Space Aggressor units to the Space Force while standing up corresponding units for Orbital Warfare and Cyber Warfare.  He also served as the Deputy Commander of the Combined Space Operations Center at Vandenberg Space Force Base, where he oversaw command and control of 79 units conducting global space operations.  Earlier, Kyle commanded the 527th Space Aggressor Squadron, providing realistic space domain threat training by replicating adversary weapon systems and tactics.  He deployed twice during his Air Force career, standing-up command and control of space control systems from Al Udeid Air Force Base, Qatar and as the first commander of the 1st Expeditionary Space Control Squadron at Bagram Air Force Base, Afghanistan where his team integrated space control technology into special operations.

AREAS OF FOCUS:  He’s a Space Weapons Officer and Weapons School Instructor with a career emphasis on combined arms integration.  His technical areas of expertise include electronic warfare, command and control, space control operations, advanced training, operational test and training infrastructure, and nuclear operations

ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL TITLES:  Col. Pumroy received his undergraduate degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy, majoring in Economics.  He also earned a Masters Degree in Aerospace Studies from Embry-Riddle University and a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies from Air University as part of Air War College where he graduated with Academic Distinction and won the Air and Space Interoperability Award for outstanding research paper concerning future coalition warfighting.  His career achievements include award of the Bronze Star Medal during Operation Enduring Freedom and the National Space Club’s Schriever Award.
