The power of artificial intelligence is rapidly growing, and every airman and guardian will need to become proficient in using these tools. Moreover, AI is driving incredible advances in autonomy, and will be embedded in very nearly every weapon system and program our force employs. Artificial intelligence will be critical to combat capability, and could be the decisive factor in intelligence gathering, battlespace awareness and understanding, command decisions, and dominant action and initiative. But a number of issues surround the development and deployment of AI, from data collection, contextualization, and access to OEM data rights, to sustainment costs, and contractual models. Whatever the use for AI, there’s no question that these technologies are reshaping national security—and we’ve got to solve these issues in order to realize the full benefits of AI.
