The Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies held a live virtual rollout of its latest policy paper Understanding the Promise of Skyborg and Low-Cost Attritable Unmanned Aerial Vehicles by Col (Ret.) Mark Gunzinger, Director of Future Concepts and Capability Assessments, and Lukas Autenried, Senior Analyst, on Thursday, 1 October 2020. Lt Gen (Ret.) David Deptula hosts a panel discussion on what is meant by “attritable/reusable” UAVs, Air Force initiatives to develop them, and their warfighting potential in a conflict with a peer adversary. Panelists include Dr. Doug Meador, Deputy Program Manager of AFRL’s Low Cost Attritable Aircraft Technology program; Col Stryker Haley, Deputy Division Chief of AFWIC’s Futures & Concepts Division; and the report’s author, Col (Ret.) Mark Gunzinger.
